Massachusetts Travel - Boston to the Berkshires

West of Boston Travel

The suburban cities and towns west of Boston are both the site of historical landmarks as well as a modern hub of high-tech companies and hotels. Lexington and Concord are the site of famous Revolutionary War battles. Also worth visiting is Walden Pond in Concord.

Here are some feature articles on the west suburbs:

Battle Road Trail

A path in the Minute Man National Historic Park traces the steps of the British and colonists over 200 years ago.

Garden in the Woods

Hidden in the Boston suburbs, a small patch of woods holds a garden where rare and endangered wildflowers and plant life grow.

Historic Concord

The scenic town west of Boston was where the American Revolution began in 1775, and was later home to influential 19th century writers.

Longfellow's Wayside Inn

The historic 1716 inn that invites travelers to find food and lodging for "man, woman, and beast" is hidden behind the trees off Route 20 in Sudbury.

Walden Pond

The area in Walden Woods where Henry David Thoreau withdrew from civilization in the 1840s is still around, and is still a peaceful retreat from nearby towns and cities.
