Leonard Nimoy's Boston RootsLeonard Nimoy, the actor best known as Spock, grew up in a Boston tenement and briefly attended Boston College. Born in 1931, he was the son of Ukrainian Jewish immigrants. His father had a barbershop in Boston, and according to IMDB, the "Spock cut" became one of the shop's most popular hairstyles. After dropping out of BC, Nimoy moved to California, where he appeared in Queen for A Day and Kid Monk Baroni, but he became famous as Dr. Spock on the 1960s TV series Star Trek, a role which led him to three Emmy nominations. Nimoy also served a couple of years in the Army. Nimoy is mostly retired from acting now, but has written several books, including poetry. He's also set to appear in a new Star Trek movie directed by J.J. Abrams, scheduled for release in 2009. More Quick Facts Last update: |
