Gillette - Massachusetts' contribution to shavingCutting out a space for itself in the annals of Boston's history is the disposable razor. King Camp Gillette, the founder of Gillette, was not from Boston - he was a traveling salesman originally from Wisconsin - but the story goes that he got the idea of a disposable razor while on business in the area in 1895. Gillette teamed up with engineer William E. Nickerson, an MIT graduate whom Gillette had met at a dinner party in Brookline, and set up the Gillette Company in 1901 on Atlantic Avenue in Boston. The company eventually grew to be one Massachusetts' top companies, and the name Gillette became irrevocably linked to a close shave. In October, 2005, Gillette was bought by Procter & Gamble.
